Does it really make that big a difference whether or not we believe in transubstantiation? Yes. Let it be according to our faith. When Jesus said, “I will be with you always, even unto the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20), maybe he meant he would be present to us through the Eucharist, which has been with us since the Ascension? The Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist reveals that Christ is with me. Not just for me, but with me. In the midst of all of life’s trials and suffering, Jesus is still with us as much as He was at his birth, through his earthly life, and death— He truly is Immanuel, God with us. And that means He is with you. Wherever you are, whatever you’re going through at work, in your marriage, with your children, whatever cross you are carrying…Jesus is with you. And I pray that you will receive him and let him receive you with fresh, new eyes of faith in the Sacrament of the Eucharist soon.
